  1. Okay, have literally just started playing with this and the first thing that jumps out at me is the speed, virtually no delay at all running searches etc very nice. Granted I'm on an internal network but still it's very smooth and I like the look and feel as well. One small thing that I've noticed is that when you do a search in Intella normally, then view the search results, your keyword is highlighted in the body of the email and also there is a line in the scroll bar to indicate where the hit is located for the long documents. This doesn't appear to happen when using Connect, not sure if this is HTML related but if it's possible that would be worth keeping. I'll post more thoughts/feedback as I think of them, but so far looks fantastic. Edit : I don't appear to be able to preview attachments of any kind so far (testing .gif, .pdf, .doc, .xls), I'm not sure if clicking the preview button or double clicking the item should launch MS Word or some sort of web viewer but at this point I can see the attachment and it's properties, however I can't figure out a way to view the attachment itself.
  2. Hey, firstly it appears the permissions on this forum might be locked down a little tight, it's showing as needing moderator approval before showing...or am I just too controversial Okay, have just installed both 32 and 64 bit versions of Intella Connect and on starting I have a license not found error, exact wording is "No Intella licenses could be found. Please contact sales@vound etc etc" I have confirmed my dongle is connected and being recognised by launching Intella Team. This error shows for both 32 and 64 versions. My machine is running Win7 x64
  3. I just found out about this and it looks fantastic. I'd love to be involved if you are still seeking Beta testers!
  4. Thanks Chris, I can't remember if the case was indexed prior to 1.6.3 or not so I will re-index just in case. I know I need to be more patient and figure things out but sometimes I need to have my little hissy fit and vent before I feel better and can think clearly
  5. Another search issue, and I'm sorry but I have to say as much as I like Intella the search functionality is just no where near the standard of the rest of the software. Please take this as constructive as it's intended that way, I constantly have issues using search and it's almost impossible to duplicate search results from minute to minute. Tags don't seem to take properly, filtering by a single tag will often show other tags. Right now I'm looking at a particular email address and I cannot search and show all the emails sent by this particular email address. If I tick "from" and "sender" I get zero results for a known email address. If I tick "authors & email addresses" then I get all and sundry, including this particular email address but tring to filter by a single email address is just not working. It has previously worked on this case so the on again off again could also indicate an issue with my machine, but there are some serious issues with Intella's search over all and to be honest I'm starting to dread trying to use it. Try and find a particular email address is a nightmare, when you start looking by email address they are all sorted alphabetically by the email address itself, which is fine, however on the left there are the names associated with the email address and they chop and change between being alphabetical and not, so you may have 10 different email addresses all associated with a particular user, but because of the sort order you may never know. There definitely needs to be an option to change the sort order so we can sort alphabetically by the associated name first, then any email addresses that aren't linked to a known user name display at the end. As it is now is very difficult to make sense of. Also there needs to be a "All email addresses" option as looking there by the individual fields is not always needed or helpful. The search is improving but the stability and reliability seriously needs to be looked at. /rant (it has not been a great start to my Friday)
  6. Think my brain is fried, I only just spotted the 'include' and 'exclude' on the top search button. So my steps this time were 1 - facet type, include email messages 2 - search filter tick sender/from search for email address 3 - search filter tick to/cc/bcc then enter the domains I want to exclude and use the 'exclude' filter for each 4 - Facet filter type highlight messages then click bottom search button 5 - Same result as before Amazing what you find when you read the manual roll on Friday I'm done
  7. I'm having a few issues getting comfortable with the "include" "exclude" way of trying to search and I'm hoping to clarify a few things. Firstly, if I "include" emails then search, will it only search emails or do I need to "exclude" everything else? Similarly if I "exclude" something then search will it search everything except that which is excluded? I know it seems straight forward but I've found that searching with the "include" and "exclude" rarely behaves the way I think it should, so I just want to clarify exactly what is happening. Also today I was asked to isolate all the emails which had been sent by a particular user to email addresses which did not include some key domains. I'm curious if my method was a round about way and if there is a more effective way to do this, my steps were: 1 - "include" emails & "exclude" everything else 2 - using the search filter tick only "sender" and "from" then search with the email address 3 - Tag all the resulting hits 4 - Clear all filters, then "include" the newly created tag from step 3 5 - using search filter tick to/cc/bcc then search for the first email domain I wish to exclude "@gmail.com" for example. Tag the results and then repeat with any other domain I want to exclude. 6 - Clear all filters, "include" the first tag created at step 3, then "exclude" the next three tags created from the domains I wish to exclude. 7 - Switch facet to "type" and highlight messages, then click the search button at the bottom. 8 - I now have all emails sent by a particular email address to any email domain excluding the tagged other domains. Does search allow an AND so I could have put more than one domain in "@gmail.com AND @hotmail.com AND @yahoo.com" and further could I have gone the other way and used a NOT to exclude the domains right from the outset? Maybe I should just go and read the manual
  8. Okay, I'm sorry this is going to be a quick post because I don't have time to trouble shoot it properly now, but this is causing me no end of grief. Using Intella 1.6.3 x64 and experiencing very unreliable and glitchy tagging behavior. I clear all tags etc, then I include the sources I wish to search over, then I include the type (only email) I want to search over. Then I exclude everything else. I apply the search as a partial email address "@gmail.com" using the filter only select the senders/receiver/to/from/cc/bcc fields. I get 263 results all showing from the same source, but I know there are 363 emails from the other source. If I conduct this search only on the second source I can see the 363 emails, but if I try and include everything it completely ignores the second source. In addition when I select to view only tagged items for "Tag A" I continually see items for "Tag B" and "Tag C" showing up. I had previously mentioned this behavior and you were looking into it, appears to be still hanging around. My system may have some issues so I'm not discounting that fact, but anyway. I'll come back to this properly when I can just curious to see if anyone else experiences similar behavior. Edit : Stupid stupid stupid *facepalm I had the dedpulicate option pressed and as all the emails from source A are duplicated on source B that's why they weren't showing. Crawling back into my box now and getting on with my report.
  9. For the current case I'm looking at the emails in question have no contents tab. I'm just out of the case at the moment but will have another look tomorrow when I return and give you some specifics. Most of the emails came from an OST file so I'm not sure if that has any effect.
  10. Another query/wish When previewing an email it seems the formatting and spacing is generally thrown out the window, which means if I'm previewing an email chain that has been forwarded/replied to etc many times I end up with a single paragraph of solid text, when I open that email in Outlook I can easily read the email chain and separate the individual emails, but the preview version is very difficult to do this. Is there any way the preview of the emails can be made to preserve the spacing and layout to more closely represent the true view? Edit : I just found some emails that are previewing correctly so obviously this is not something that happens with every email. Also any feedback on the suggestions so far, are they possible/not possible, plan on being included in a future update/not planned etc? And lastly I had previously been told about the 'empty document' filter option to assist identify emails with no body of text. This appears not to be working on Ver 1.6.3. Is anyone else noticing this or is it just me? Oh and love the new search ability for individual to/from/cc etc fields.
  11. I'm lucky enough to work in a large organisation with many foreign speaking people so we can generally find someone in the office who speaks the language. However, an approach I have taken in the past is to use a free online translation (google or babel) to get a general look at the document. This is obviously not good enough for evidentiary purposes but may be good enough to determine which documents you actually need to get translated. I'm not sure how effective this is for long documents but I've used in in the past for email translations.
  12. How very odd. For me USB3 has never worked consistently however eSata is flawless. I have constant dropouts when using USB3 with Xways. If I try and recover/copy data from a case onto a USB3 drive in every single instance at some point Windows Explorer would lose the connection and say the device no longer existed, forcing Xways to abort the recover/copy process. Under normal operation I have constant dropouts and the throughput speed is slower than USB2 when averaging out. I have been having some other issues with my machine so there is a possibility the machine itself is the issue rather than USB3 per say. Might be time for a full reinstall to make sure...arrrgh!
  13. I've never seen anyone say 'external drives' perhaps you misunderstood or I'm not paying close enough attention Have a look at this thread, has a link which you will find tells you what you need to know. http://community.vou...ation-possible/ Oh and I don't think USB 3 will ever become the standard, it's fast becoming recognised as the "Vista" of the USB standards. Look for eSata if you must use external drives as they are a much faster and much more stable option that USB 3.
  14. Weird problem with some tags, this is the rundown. A case started with an Intella 250 license, indexed and some tagging done. License upgraded to TEAM, more sources added and indexed, some tagging done on the TEAM manager and some remote TEAM viewer tagging. More sources added to case and indexed, process interupted and all sources re-indexed. There has been tagging done from 2 different remote TEAM viewers and locally on the TEAM manager interface. Now however when starting up TEAM Manager and opening the case I cannot remove tags. I highlight and right click, select 'remove tags' and the dialog box opens but is blank, no tags listed. We haven't tried deleting the tags from the viewer that created them in the first place as I was under the impression that the TEAM Manager was able to have complete control over the case. Was I mistaken?
  15. Anyone? Someone canceled an indexing process before it was completed and I have a weeks worth of work done on other sources for this case. I need to know what will happen to my old tags and searches if I reindex all the sources. Even better if there was a way to index only the recently added sources?
  16. I just need to know if reindexing a source will undo or negate tags that have already been applied?
  17. Hi Admin, I've just got off the phone from one of your guys in Australia and he took me through that so I can confirm that the dongle is activated correctly and all the correct software is listed. The Sentinal servcie is running. Something is eating the Intella.exe service before it can launch properly. I'm trying to track down my IT manager to see if the AV is responsible, however as it works on my computer which has the same AV I'm not hopeful, but you never know, stranger things have happened.
  18. Okay, I'm still trouble shooting this issue so here is some more info which may assist the boffins. Using Task manager I created a list of all running processes on the other machine, I then compared that to my machine and highlighted the different processes. I then went to the other machine and one at a time killed the different processes and tried to launch Intella each time. No dice. There were a few persistent processes which would restart but I've sourced all the processes back to legitimate software. I start up the machine in safe mode and I can lanch Intella with the .exe staying active, however due to safemode I then get a HASP services error and Intella fails to launch as expected. This leads me to think that Intella is wanting sole access to a process or resource which is locked by another piece of software. Does Intella need exclusive access to a process or something else like that?
  19. This is part of the problem, that 'Intella' folder is never created. I think those folders and files are created by default on the first successful launch of Intella, as it's not launching at all on this machine those folders don't exist. I tried copying across the folder from my computer but this makes no difference. Edit - I just realised that on my machine I'm still running 1.6.1 so there could be something in that. I'm installing 1.6.2 on my machine and 1.6.1 on his machine, then once both machines have both versions installed I may be in a position to trouble shoot a bit better. Edit again - 1.6.2 installs and launches fine on my machine, however 1.6.1 still has the same install error about the 'vendors' folder and will not launch once installed on his machine. The differences between the machines are minimal as they have pretty much the same software and hardware.
  20. Uninstall and reinstall makes no difference, however an error message came up during the install "Error opening file for writing" "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Aladdin Shared\HASP\Vendors\88087.xml" When I go to that location the HASP folder is there so the install clearly can write folders, however there is no Vendors folder withing that directory. I can ignore the error and the install finishes but Intella will not lauch and the .exe doesn't even show up at all when I attempt to launch. I have tried installing with and without the dongle attached, I also installed it with my own credentials on his machine. Weird thing is when that error message came up I manually created the "vendors" vile and then clicked "retry", the install finished without any further errors and the 88087.xml file is created. However on launch the same thing happens, Intella.exe flashes on for a micro second then dissappears and still there is no Intella folder created uner the Application Data folder.
  21. Thanks for the reply's so far. As the Intella.exe fails to launch it looks like it doesn't even create the log file in the first place. As we are runningn XP machines there is no roaming folder to speak of, on my computer the log folder is "C:\Documents and settings\username\Application Data\Intella" The Intella folder does not exist on my co-workers computer. Launching from DOS makes no difference and there is no error message displayed. He is uninstalling and re-installing now to see if that fixes. AV isn't an issue as we are running a SOE and Intella works fine on my computer with all the same software installed and running.
  22. Having a weird issue on one of my colleagues laptops. Installed Intella 1.6.2 but it won't launch on the laptop. If I open Task Manager and start the Inteall launcher I can see the intella.exe appears very brifely then dissappears instantly. Reboot has been tried and running as admin has been tried. The laptop is an older Lenovo thinkpad running XP SP3, 32 bit, Intel core 2 duo, 2gb ram. Specs should be okay but I can't figure out what is happening. Intella runs fine on my laptop, similar specs.
  23. Okay I'm just playing with my new TEAM license so have a suggestion / wish straight up. The ability to create .icf files is great, however on large cases it would be more effective if we could limit what files go into the .icf file. This would enable the manager to manage the work flow far more effectively that the blanket approach. Not to mention the logistics of sharing a 20GB .icf file are not all that friendly. For example, if we could create an .icf file that only had emails for .PST file A and B, then another .icf file that had .PST C and D. This would give much smaller .icf files and would enable the manager to delegate who sees what. Could also be very useful when you may have junior staff assisting with an internal review and you don't want them to be able to see the emails of senior staff. Along the same lines with the sharing of the case, this is fantastic for sharing on the internal network, it would be even better if I could designate who see's what and then have the share session allow multiple connections at the same time. This would be fantastic with any tags or comments that reviewers make show up in the Managers case for checking and merging (or removing if need be). I'm not sure how this may wash with the permissions needed by Intella when accessing the data as I suspect at the moment only one person can remote connect at a time and I know I can't open the case on the host machine while it is being shared, so having the ability to work on a case on the local machine while it is being shared would be excellent if the sharing permissions can allow that. I know that would create some issues if two people make changes to the same document, but that could be overcome if the TEAM Manager always takes precedence, and any review tags / comments which may conflict are flagged up for checking on the TEAM Manager's screen.
  24. This could actually work very well when working cross tools too. I use different tools for different jobs but having the ability to import a hashset from Xways forensics into Intella is immensely helpful. Great stuff.
